Frank Agoglia, of Stony Brook, was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal by the Consul General of France.
The 101-year-old Army veteran was part of the Normandy Invasion on D-Day in 1944.
"I am happy to be honored," added Agoglia at a ceremony at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook.
He and his fellow soldiers were instrumental in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation.
"My dad crashed in the glider and half of the people died in the glider.
He fell and injured his arm, but kept on fighting," explained his daughter, Susan Pombano.
Agoglia is also the recipient of a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
