A dangerous internet challenge has reportedly left an Indiana teen with second-degree burns after his friend dumped boiling water on him while he was sleeping.
The “hot water challenge” involves people posting videos of pouring boiling hot water on themselves or someone else.
Not surprisingly, doctors say it’s a terrible idea.
“You're talking about second- and third-degree burns that go all the way deep into the skin that will permanently scar and damage someone,” says Dr. Jose Prince, of Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
Barbara Overton, of Elmont, says clout earned by submitting to peer pressure is not worth it.
“I talk to my grandkids all the time and let them know you got to think for yourself. Friends will get you in trouble,” she says.
