A school in the Amityville district faces possible closure due to budget deficits, a district spokesperson says.
Dozens of employees at the Amityville Union Free School District have already been told they are being laid off due to the ongoing financial issues.
Parents came out to Wednesday night’s budget meeting to fight for quality education for their children. They say more cuts could make that impossible.
A district spokesperson says "other things" are being considered besides the potential school closure. Those include a tax hike, buses, field trips, BOCES and clubs and sports.
It is not yet known what school could be closing, or what other cuts could be made to remedy the budget deficit.
