A school in the Amityville district faces possible closure due to budget deficits, a district spokesperson says.
Dozens of employees at the Amityville Union Free School District have already been told they are being laid off due to the ongoing financial issues.
Parents came out to Wednesday's budget meeting to fight for a quality education for their children. They say more cuts could make that impossible.
"I want answers, I want to know why it got to this point," says Melina Lichioveri, of Amityville. "It shouldn't be this way, it's absolutely devastating for our children and it's devastating for the staff."
A district spokesperson says "other things" are being considered besides the potential school closure.
It is not yet known what school could be closing or what other cuts could be made to remedy the budget deficits.
