Mathews Park in Norwalk will be temporarily closed for two months starting today while it undergoes a renovation project. This means families will have to find a new place for their children to play while the park gets a revamp.
News 12's Angelica Toruno was at Devon's Place – the playground at Mathews Park – to talk with parents and kids about how these changes will impact their outdoor activities.
“Definitely a little sad about that,” said Britnee Henderson, of Nowalk.
“Sad because sometimes we go here,” said Brooke, of Norwalk.
According to the City of Norwalk, by the end of the project there will be updated playground equipment and poured-in surfacing material.
"I'm going to be excited that they're going to make the playground better,” said Kelsey Kaferle, of Norwalk.
In the meantime, kids like Brooke are already brainstorming where to go while the park gets a makeover.
"Maybe we could go to Ryan's or a different park in this community,” said Brooke.
Kelsey said she’s excited to see what the "new" playground will look like.
The city said people will still be able to get to Mathews Park and use the Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) at Pine Island Cemetery.
