Police say a man has been arrested for DWI after a crash that killed a passenger in his car Sunday morning on the Long Island Expressway.
Suffolk police say 27-year-old Daniel Moreira, of Deer Park, was headed west on the highway at around 3:45 a.m. in a Toyota Corolla. His vehicle struck the back of a pickup truck between Route 110 and Bagatelle Road.
Moreira's passenger, Ismelda Rodriguez, 25, of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. Moreira was hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 60-year-old Kings Park man, was unhurt.
Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.
Westbound lanes on the highway were shut down for several hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
