A father of six was shot and killed on Father's Day after police say party crashers showed up at a North Bellport celebration and a dispute broke out.
The gunfire erupted shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday at a party on Doane Avenue. Suffolk police say a group of uninvited guests arrived and an argument ensued outside before a number of shots were fired.
Police say 50-year-old James Skinner, of Queens, was shot. The husband and father was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Another man is said to have suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
It's unclear what sparked the argument, but investigators say it was not gang-motivated.
"We're looking into what drove them to this party," says Suffolk Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer. "It wasn't a big party."
Neighbors were disturbed to hear of the violence so close to home.
No arrests have been made in the case. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-800-220-TIPS.
