Two people have been found dead inside a house that was boarded up and believed to be vacant after a previous fire.

Another fire at the home occurred early Sunday morning. There was a prior fire at the house in Oct. 2025.

The first 911 calls reporting the fire at 45 Sycamore Avenue came in at 1:28 a.m., according to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Ten fire departments responded, sending 75 firefighters to the scene. Crews were able to bring the blaze under control within two hours.

Fire officials say the two victims were discovered inside the home amidst firefighting operations, they are believed to squatters who used the abandoned house as a shelter.

The house suffered extensive damage, leading to a partial collapse of the structure.

The Village of Hempstead Building Department responded to assess the damage and secure the site.

The catalyst for the fire remains under investigation as does the cause of death for both.
