Investigation underway after Southampton officers kill attacker

The shooting started as a call for a domestic situation inside a home on Topping Drive, police say.

An investigation continues Monday morning after Southampton Town police officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife at a home in Northampton Sunday afternoon.

Southampton Town police said they received a call regarding an escalating domestic situation around 2:45 p.m. at a home near Topping Drive and Old Westhampton Road. The home has a Riverhead mailing address, but falls within Northampton and under the Southampton Town Police Department's jurisdiction.

Officials have not provided specific details on what unfolded at the scene.

Suffolk County police said a woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Three Southampton Town police officers were treated at a hospital and released.

Investigators have not identified the man shot or the woman who was seriously injured, how she was hurt, their relationship, how many officers fired their weapons, or how many shots were fired.

Suffolk County police said the investigation is ongoing.
