A crash on the Long Island Expressway Monday morning in Islandia seriously injured a motorcyclist.
Suffolk police say Eric Simmons was driving a Dodge pickup truck westbound in the HOV lane near Exit 58 when a motorcyclist “attempted to cross in front of him.”
James Coon, 61, was ejected from the motorcycle when the two vehicles collided. He was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
Simmons, 51, was not injured.
Police say both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
The crash closed the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway for hours.
