Nassau County police say a 27-year-old man was arrested Sunday on multiple counts of arson after several vehicles were set on fire in Freeport.

Officers responded to a report of multiple vehicles on fire at Municipal Parking Field 1, where they found several cars fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.

Police say Alder Lopez Avalos was spotted near the scene and was identified as the person responsible for setting the fires. He was taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation revealed Avalos is believed to be responsible for similar vehicle fires in Freeport on May 2, as well as on June 18 and 29, 2025.
