Cops: Oceanside man arrested for arson in retaliation for stabbing
Police say a teen was arrested for setting an Oceanside house he was living in on fire in retaliation for being stabbed.
Officials say 18-year-old Suave Pereira became involved in a heated argument with a fellow renter in the house on Court Street, 57-year-old Howard Brigham, resulting in Brigham stabbing Pereira with a kitchen knife.
Investigators say that Pereira then left the house and purchased gasoline and a lighter which he used to set the house on fire while others were sleeping inside. They say those living in the house were able to extinguish the flames before they spread further.
Pereira was arrested and charged with arson. Brigham was also arrested and charged with assault.
