Suffolk police are on the lookout for a Brentwood man suspected of attacking his girlfriend and another man with an ax.
Police say Stephen Abbott, 40, of 118 Sycamore St. in Brentwood, returned home to his live-in girlfriend, Darlene Grice, 44, around 10 p.m. Sunday night. Abbott agreed to leave after Grice, who was with a friend, Carlos Derby, 34, of upstate Harriman, asked him to, police say.
According to investigators, Abbott returned at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday with an ax and assaulted both of them. Abbott then fled after allegedly stealing Grice's black 1990 Lexus.
Grice was treated for head wounds and released from the hospital. Derby, who also sustained head wounds, is in critical condition.
Police are looking for Abbott. Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
