Copiague man charged with depositing about $66K in fraudulent checks at two Nassau banks

A Copiague man was charged with depositing fraudulent checks valued at about $66,000 at two Nassau County banks in January.

Richard Almonte, 37, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly cashing the checks at Capital One on Gulls Cove in Plandome Manor on Jan. 7 and Four Leaf Federal Credit Union on Grand Avenue in Baldwin on Jan. 29, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Almonte was charged with two counts of grand larceny, attempted grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument. He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The NCPD urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams or frauds. Anyone who may have been a victim is encouraged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477) or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
