Temperatures have been stuck in the teens for most of the last two days, averaging out to just 15 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. This makes it the coldest two-day stretch since 2019, where it averaged just 12 degrees on Jan. 31 to Feb. 1. The core of the cold will slowly ease and move out of the borough by this weekend.
Another frigid night is on the way, marginally milder than the last few nights. Feels-like temperatures will be in the single digits into Thursday morning and teens by the afternoon. Layering and covering up will be key out the door once again in the morning, even if the feel is slightly warmer. Frostbite and hypothermia can still occur without proper protection from the cold in just minutes.
A slow recovery begins Thursday afternoon, with highs back into the upper 20s, feeling like around 20 degrees. The 30s are back for Friday and into the weekend, feeling noticeably warmer by Sunday with highs returning to the typical high for this time of year, at 39 degrees.
Another coastal storm is likely well offshore Friday as the pattern remains "too cold to snow" for the area. The same is likely for next Monday. Next opportunity for rain or snow is not until midweek next week at the earliest.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy and still bitterly cold. Lows near 15.
Thursday: Clouds give way to sunshine, still very cold and less harsh. Highs near 29. Lows near 19.
Friday: Mostly sunny, near freezing, and still shivering. Highs near 31. Lows near 20.
Saturday: Finally, above freezing. Sunny and very cold. Highs near 33. Lows near 27.
