News 12 is tracking the tropics as Helene heads toward Florida's coastline. Right now, the storm will not be impacting Long Island.

Nice weather with sunshine and warmer temperatures will return for the weekend.

FORECAST:

OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with the chance of a passing sprinkle or shower. Lows near 58 degrees with east winds 5 to 10 mph. Sunrise: 6:43 a.m.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy, with the slight chance of a stray shower or sprinkle late in the day. Highs near 68 degrees with east/southeast winds 5 to 15 mph. Sunset: 6:44 p.m. Cloudy at night with a passing shower. Lows near 60 degrees.

THURSDAY: Cloudy, with the chance of a few rain showers. Warmer with highs near 75 degrees. Lows near 62 degrees.

FRIDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs near 75 degrees. Lows near 59 degrees.
