A Lindenhurst man pleaded guilty to taking part in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

Prosecutors say Matthew Schmitz, a member of the Long Island Proud Boys, was part of the first group to storm past officers and shatter windows to get inside.

The 34-year-old faces up to a year in jail when he is sentenced in January. He could also have to pay up to $100,000 in fines.
