The Roslyn Heights Civic Association and North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman are stepping up their efforts to keep large out-of-place mansions from springing up in local communities.
President Chris Cavaliere says the civic association has been complaining for years about lax enforcement of town laws that has led to the mansions sprouting up in modest neighborhoods. Kaiman says the town has begun an internal investigation into the big house syndrome, as well as all past practices of the Building and Zoning Department.
Cavaliere says his group?s aim is to preserve the integrity of neighborhoods for current residents and future homeowners. Kaiman says the town has turned over information to the District Attorney?s office, which would neither confirm nor deny it is conducting its own investigation.
