Nassau County fire officials say they are receiving an "abnormally high" number of calls related to increased smoke stemming from wildfires in Canada.

In a post on Facebook, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office wrote that "Nassau County Fire Communications is receiving an abnormally high number of smoke in the area calls today, likely attributed to the wildfires in Ontario."

The fire marshal said that fire communications is "adequately staffed" to handle the increase in call volume.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health issued an air quality health advisory for New York City and Long Island that is to remain in effect until at least 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The smoky and hazy skies are a result of wildfires currently tearing across Toronto.
