The eighth annual breast cancer summit was held Wednesday at the Carltun in Eisenhower Park.

The East Meadow room was packed with patients, doctors and company representatives, promoting treatment options and merchandise.

Panel discussions focused on advances in reconstruction and why breast cancer rates are still so high on Long Island.

“There are ongoing efforts in terms of both environmental research here on Long Island to genetic research and the genetic makeup of the population in this part of the country that are ongoing in terms of trying to explain this,” said Dr. Michael Dobryansky, of the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group.

Survivors also shared stories of life after breast cancer.
