A bitter blast has plunged temperatures, freezing roads across Long Island today.

People spoke with News 12 and told us that while the main roads, including the highways, look pretty clear, their local neighborhoods, parking lots and sidewalks are covered in ice.

Thunderbolt 12 drove around this morning and found similar conditions. Surfaces that either weren't fully plowed or salted have turned into skating rinks.

Suffolk County police said they responded to over 200 crashes during and after this weekend's storm. Nassau County police haven't provided that information, though the roads were just as bad.

Safety experts urge drivers to take it slower than normal on the roads, watch out for black ice and increase their distance between themselves and the cars around them to reduce the chance of an accident.
