The Bethpage Water District is set to receive millions of dollars from Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy to treat groundwater contamination.
The parties filed a consent judgment Monday that, once approved, will settle pending litigation stemming from the Northrop Grumman and the Navy groundwater plume.
Enough money will be given to the district to retire debt from its construction of advanced treatment systems.
The $49 million agreement will help fix decades of pollution that has left taxpayers with the bulk of costs needed to access drinkable water.
