Bird watchers are flocking to the South Shore for a rare glimpse of the majestic bald eagle.
Steve Schellenger, of the South Shore Audubon Society, says two adult eagles and one immature eagle were spotted in the area two weeks ago. Another eagle was seen today.
Parkgoers told News 12 Long Island that they were hopeful they could see the American icon in the wild.
"I've never seen one in my whole life, but I love America so I'd love to see an eagle," said Stefanie Vuotto, of East Rockaway.
Schellenger attributes the birds' arrival to a growing population of eagles and food becoming scarce up north as ponds freeze.
