Long Islanders are preparing, as a dozen communities are expected to host ‘No Kings’ protests this weekend.
From Garden City to Orient and East Hampton, people are expected to protest the Trump administration policies and ICE operations.
One of the larger protests will take place in Heckscher Park in Huntington, but Susan Beckerman, of Huntington, isn’t worried.
"I think there'll always be access to the park,” she said. “No one is going to not want people to come in and enjoy the park. It's such a great park. I just hope it does some good."
A protest on the North Shore comes after Port Washington police say ICE agents arrested two people there Thursday.
News 12 learned the arrests are related to other unspecified crimes.
Ed Mendez says he’s keeping the doors of his deli open when the protests starts Saturday at 11 a.m.
"We're going to be with them,” he said. “Actually, we're going to be open regular hours."
Corbey Hyman, of Port Washington, just hopes things stay calm Saturday.
"Peaceful protests are one of Americans' rights and I'm proud of our community for being a part of that,” she said. "People coming out and getting their voices heard in a peaceful way."
As News 12 previously reported, Nassau and Suffolk police say both agencies are prepared to step in if protests across the island begin to escalate.
