A former Suffolk County correction officer was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison for forcing an inmate to perform a sex act while on duty at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.
37-year-old Jason Middleton, of Central Islip, pleaded guilty in June after admitting he escorted an inmate into a utility walkway between jail cells that was out of view of security cameras.
Prosecutors said Middleton led the inmate into the blind spot, closed the door, and ordered the inmate to perform oral sex, of which they complied.
“This defendant took advantage of the trust placed in him to commit an outrageous abuse of power and a serious crime,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.
Middleton was arrested on Nov. 24, 2023, by members of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Public Corruption Bureau. He was then suspended without pay by the Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to his prison sentence, Middleton must register as a sex offender.
