A local summer tradition helped raise money in memory of a fallen firefighter from Nassau County.

The 12th annual Peter’s Clam Bar clam eating contest was held in Island Park on Sunday.

This year’s event honored 19-year-old Lindsey Rose Parke, a firefighter and EMT from Levittown who was killed in a crash in Hicksville earlier this year.

The competition included two separate challenges – one for firefighters and the other for the public.

Money raised will be donated to local charities through the Lindsey Rose Foundation, which raises awareness and advocates for safer driving.

"We did our best this year. This is going to be our best one yet for the Lindsey Rose Foundation, a young woman who worked for our company in our boot camp and we want to do whatever we can to raise money for them," said restaurant owner, Butch Yamali.

As News 12 has reported, Frank Labidi, of Farmingville, is charged with manslaughter for the fatal collision that also took the life of 19-year-old Alexa Duryea.
