A crash involving a box truck shut down the westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway at Exit 50A in Bohemia early Sunday morning.

Suffolk police said they received a report of the crash around 5:46 a.m. at Exit 50.

After the crash, the westbound lanes were closed at Exit 50A for hours, snarling traffic.

Police say a 17-year-old male was driving the truck with a 20-year-old passenger.

The Sayville Fire Department said in a social media post that after responding to the crash, they found a commercial box truck had struck a pole in the center median of the highway.

Fire officials said one occupant was trapped inside.

Firefighters rescued the trapped victim using an assortment of hydraulic rescue tools.

The two men were transported to hospitals for treatment, according to the fire department.

The incident remains under investigation.
