Amityville was the scene of a touching tribute to victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
Community members came to East Street Saturday for a show of support and to send a message to grieving family members that they are not alone. The group, Keep the Peace Foundation, planted a tree in an area called the Garden of Hope in memory of the victims. The tree will stand with existing memorials to two young Amityville victims of gun violence.
On Monday, Virginia Tech senior Cho Seung-Hui went on a shooting spree, methodically killing 32 people before taking his own life.
Residents say it is not a time for anger against Cho, but a time to remember the victims and help the families to heal.
