Summer in Toms River is often spent on the diamond. This year, the Toms River All-Stars are one of the final six teams left standing in the Little League Softball World Series.

Representing the Mid-Atlantic division, the team took out Japan with an 11-0 win Wednesday and have gone 2-1 in the tournament. They’re enjoying a rare day off in Greenville, North Carolina, before their next game Friday at 6 p.m. That will be against the loser of Thursday's Puerto Rico vs. Kentucky game.

It’s a 12-and-under team that is enjoying its newfound fame on national television while still taking care of business on the field.

"They've acted like they've been there before," said Toms River Little League vice president Scott Keller. "This group is very professional. And credit to Coach Neal and Coach Clint and Coach Joe, who have really done a great job keeping their composure with the girls."

"When I get to enjoy it is when I rewatch the games, and I get to see my kids on TV, those are the moments that are really special for me," said manager Neal Gay.

Toms River is looking to become the second team from New Jersey to win the Little League Softball World Series championship - joining Robbinsville in 2014.
