A fundraiser was held in Huntington on Sunday in memory of 27-year-old Mason Kraese, the Huntington Manor volunteer firefighter who was killed in an ATV accident almost a year ago.
“I miss him. It's all I can really say. I just really miss him,” said Phillip Kraese, Mason’s dad.
“Too many good memories with him,” said Mason’s younger brother, Gunnar Kraese. “He was the best. He really was.”
More than 400 people showed up to raise thousands of dollars for the Mason Kraese Blue Collar Memorial Foundation. The money raised will go to support people who are going into the trades.
Mason worked in multiple trades over the course of his life. The foundation now continues his legacy by giving scholarships to kids who are pursuing a trade.
“He would have loved it,” Gunnar Kraese said. “He really would have. Because this this is what he worked for in life.”
The Kraese family said it’s a testament to how many people in the community admired him. This includes his friends in the fire department, where he volunteered for six years.
“We adored him….and we miss him dearly,” said firefighter Rob Burnham. “But it's phenomenal. I mean, the love and support that you had for him here today…it shows the type of person that Mason really was. I mean, a great firefighter, great person in general and a great teammate to us.”
