Suffolk County police arrested a Brooklyn man who they say was involved in an early Saturday morning shooting in Central Islip.

The shooting happened on Hawthorne Avenue near Feller Drive at 6:10 a.m.

Detectives say 39-year-old Demetrius Williams was retrieving items from a parked vehicle when an unknown person inside a gray SUV drove past him and fired two shots, striking him in the foot.

Williams ran after the vehicle and fired multiple shots at it.

Officers responded to 221 Hawthorne Ave. where they arrested Williams, who was attempting to get away in an alleyway, according to police.

Williams was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

He was charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Williams was being held at the Suffolk County Police Department Third Precinct as of Saturday night. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

The whereabouts of the SUV were not immediately known.

Detectives ask anyone with information to contact the Suffolk County Police Department Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
