A Shirley man was beaten to death in a brutal attack involving multiple weapons, including a sledgehammer, bat, dumbbells and even a television, according to prosecutors.
Korey Sammarco and Melissa Fawcett were arraigned Tuesday on gang assault charges in connection with the death of Fawcett’s ex-boyfriend, 48-year-old Christopher Martin.
The deadly beating happened Sunday night at a home on Hounslow Road, where Martin lived with Sammarco, according to police.
Prosecutors say Sammarco had moved out of the home the day before with a police escort. But authorities allege he returned Sunday with four other people, forced his way inside and attacked Martin.
They say Martin suffered broken ribs, a broken nose and severe facial injuries that led to his death.
Court documents detail that Sammarco admitted to striking Martin with a sledgehammer and even hitting him with a television before continuing the assault.
The assistant district attorney said Sammarco also used a bat and dumbbells in the attack. Prosecutors further allege Sammarco told police he is a member of the Bloods street gang and implicated four others in the beating.
Authorities have not said whether additional arrests are imminent, but police and the district attorney’s office say the investigation is ongoing.
