New Citi Bike stations coming to The Bronx

The four stations will all be placed on the road, with three of them taking over parking spots.

The New York City Department of Transportation is in the process of installing 22 new Citi Bike stations around Riverdale in Bronx Community Board 8, including four upcoming on Broadway, up along Van Cortlandt Park.

"It'll definitely be helpful if I don't plan on driving," said Richard Thomas, who lives in the area.

Others, like Thomas Washington, who walks in the park every day, were more skeptical, saying "All (the Citi Bikes) do is sit and catch dust, nobody's using them."

However, the DOT previously installed 24 stations in other parts of CB8, starting in late 2023.

It says those have averaged 12 rides a day per station.

"There's a lot of trails around here, and not a lot of people have access to the Citi Bikes that are around here," said Haley Perez, who lives nearby. "It'll help a lot of students."

Broadway already has a protected bike lane next to Van Cortlandt Park, which Perez says is "really spacious, everyone has their own lanes."

But another neighbor, who did not share her name, said, "I don't think people adhere to the bike lane as much as I would like to say they do, even in Manhattan. I can't even tell you the stats, but I'm sure they're horrific."

City data, however, shows there have only been three bike riders hurt in crashes next to the park since the start of 2025, although there is likely to be more bike traffic now.

"If people obey the law and the rules of the road - common sense, things should work out," said Steve Jason, who lives in the area.

That being said, finding a place for a car on Broadway is already an adventure, and the plans call for all four of the new stations to be built on the road, with three of them in places already used for parking."

"We have buses that come here, we have vans that come here," said Washington.

"It's already a narrow pathway with people double-parking," agreed the neighbor. "Maybe we should all just walk more."

Community Board 8 says it expects the new stations to all be installed and operational by the end of spring.
