Driver killed after car split in half in Northern State Parkway crash identified

Investigators determined that erratic driving and unsafe speed caused the vehicle to crash.

New York State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Monday night on the Northern State Parkway in Smithtown and have identified the victim.

Troopers responded around 8:30 p.m. on May 25 to the westbound lanes near the New Highway overpass at Exit 46. At the scene, they found a 2010 Volkswagen Eos split in half, with the driver, the sole occupant, ejected from the vehicle.

Police have identified the driver as Salvatore Sparacino IV, 29, of Smithtown.

Investigators determined that erratic driving and unsafe speed caused the vehicle to crash.
