Nassau police: Swatting incident caused lockdown at North Bellmore school

Officials say Newbridge Road Elementary in North Bellmore went into lockdown Tuesday following a swatting incident.
According to police, a 911 call was made for a male with a gun and possible shots fired at the school located on Newbridge Road.
The police arrived at the school soon thereafter. The school was in lockdown during the incident.
Police say a full and comprehensive search of the school was performed utilizing numerous police department resources. It was determined that it was a swatting incident, and the call was unfounded.
The lockdown was then lifted.
The district then temporarily went into a lockout as a precaution, meaning no one from the outside was allowed to enter or exit its schools.
Swatting is a form of harassment that involves calling authorities and responders to trigger an emergency response at a location.
All students and staff are safe, district officials say.
