Two-year-old Mia Giantasio has multiple life-threatening health conditions and will soon lose both kidneys.
From her smiling face and talkative personality, no one would ever know she has been through so much.
Her mother, Daniella Giantasio, says when Mia was born, she was diagnosed with craniosynostosis--a condition where the skull fuses too early putting pressure on her brain--and had to have surgery. After that, doctors found aneurysms on Mia’s arteries leading to two more surgeries.
“Most of the doctors that have seen her, they've never seen something exactly like this,” Giantasio said. “She's so active and lively. I didn't know what her future would hold, so that was very scary to hear.”
They make trips to Boston every two months for checkups, leaving her son behind with family.
“The only choice I have at this point is just continuing to be strong for my kids,” Giantasio said.
Mia now has aneurysms on her kidneys, and Daniella Giantasio recently learned that she is a perfect match to donate one of her own.
“She keeps me fighting and keeps me going,” Giantasio said. “What she has going on inside doesn't define her on the outside.”
Giantasio says she hopes doctors hear her daughter’s story and can offer some insight on what could be going wrong.
The family has gotten lots of support from the community. Businesses have hosted fundraisers and family set up a GoFundMe. Now they’re just waiting for medical miracle.
