2 Suffolk schools chance mascot names to comply with state ban on Native American mascots

Half Hollow Hills East High School will now be known as the Red Hawks and the Comsewogue School District will be the Spartans.

Two Suffolk County schools have new mascot names.

Half Hollow Hills East High School will now be known as the Red Hawks. They were previously called the Thunderbirds.

The Comsewogue School District will remain the Warriors for one more year before they transition to the Spartans.

Both schools are changing their name in response to the state ban on Native American mascots.
