Two dogs were found chained up and neglected at an abandoned house in the village of Hempstead.
The district attorney's office says a pit bull puppy and a bulldog had been tied up in the Alabama Avenue house for at least three days without food or water.
The dogs are now being cared for by the town animal shelter. They are expected to be put up for adoption in about a week.
It's unclear who left the dogs behind. The Nassau SPCA is offering a reward of $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in the case. To make a report, call 516-THE-SPCA.
