The Federal Communications Commission is trying to auction off the T-Band spectrum – a police and fire department radio network.
The network is currently used in 11 metropolitan areas across the country, including Long Island.
Rep. Lee Zeldin is working to keep the network as is.
"If it's not broken, don't auction off the T-Band spectrum and force everyone to go spend billions of dollars of additional funds on this whole other way of communicating, which is unnecessary,” said Zeldin.
The T-Band is on track to be auctioned by 2021.
