A Mastic man has been convicted of murdering his longtime friend in November 2023.
The Suffolk DA says a jury found James Brown, 45, guilty in Umar Elquhir’s fatal shooting at the Poospatuck Reservation.
Investigators discovered a surveillance video from a smoke shop that showed Brown and the victim had a physical altercation earlier in the evening.
Brown faces up to 40 years to life in prison when he is sentenced in June.
