Yaphank Walmart reopening after Wednesday malfunction in fire suppression system

Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services says it received a call at 3:30 p.m. for a fire in the Walmart pump room.

The Walmart on 901 Boulevard East in Yaphank is reopening Thursday after repairs were made to the fire suppression system, according to a Town of Brookhaven Chief Fire Marshal.

Chief Chris Mehrman says repairs and tests have been done of the fire suppression system, which had a malfunction in the pump, and that Walmart will operate as normal Thursday.

Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services says it received a call Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. for a fire in the Walmart pump room.

The Ridge Fire Department responded, and while technicians were working on the sprinkler system, an automatic alarm went off at 6:25 p.m.
