A West Islip man is facing felony charges of possessing child pornography.
Investigators say 73-year-old Nicholas Pedagno was arraigned Friday and pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors accused Pedagno of possessing images of children under the age of 15 engaging in sexual acts.
Investigators say he posed as a younger person on social media platforms to go get photos of children.
Detectives searched Pedagno's iPad that revealed several usernames including love361569 and lisabutterfly2.
Laura Ahearn, an advocate for victims of childhood sexual abuse, says predators often use the internet to solicit children.
"Child pornography is the currency of the sexual exploitation of children," Ahearn says. "When someone possesses child pornography they are perpetuating the revictimization of that child. It is very serious."
Neighbors were disgusted at the allegations against Pedagno.
"I have three grandkids and to hear this is just disturbing," says Stacie Kurek
Pedagno is facing a felony charge and was released from court on supervised released. He is due back in court on May 11.
Suffolk detectives are asking if anyone think they could have been a victim of Pedagno's to call the Computer Crimes Unit at 631-852-6279
