West Babylon School District officials are considering banning home-cooked foods at class and school events as part of a new wellness policy.
If the proposed changes are approved, all dishes that parents would be sending for class birthday parties and fundraisers would have to be commercially prepared, properly labeled and meet certain nutritional guidelines with limits on saturated fats, fats and calories.
"We don't expect that this is going to change obesity, but this is one small step," says West Babylon Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dominick Palma.
A wellness policy meeting will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the West Babylon School District.
