Two Hauppauge volunteer firemen are being praised as heroes after rescuing their neighbor from a house fire Tuesday.

Mike Romito and Vinny Giuliano live one and two houses down, respectively, from the site of the blaze. Romito says he opened his door to look out after receiving an emergency call and saw neighbor Joseph Matriciano?s house engulfed in flames. Romito and Giuliano say Matriciano is a friend and they guessed he was asleep inside. They say they rushed to the back of the burning house and banged on the door. Matriciano awoke unaware that his house was on fire and exited with the firemen.

Matriciano?s wife and young son were not at home at the time of the fire. Investigators are still searching for the cause of the blaze.
