An after-school program that has been years in the making is teaching Northport students and their families the love of music.
The Northport School District has been planning the after-school violin program for 16 years.
Participants in the program get to learn the violin with their parents.
The program started in September when approval was granted.
Eighty families were interested in the program, but there was only capacity for 32.
The fortunate families were chosen through a lottery system.
"It really shows that you're never too young or old to learn a new instrument or any instrument," says Veronica Kiss, an elementary orchestra teacher for the Northport School District.
Parents also say they never thought they would learn the violin at their age with their children.
Organizers hope the program continues and will be able to grow in years to come.
