Today marked a special delivery day for children who were forced to spend the holidays at Winthrop University Hospital.

For 16 years, Sen. Charles Fuschillo has put smiles on the faces of ill children through his "Extend the Holidays" program.

Children who couldn't be home for the holidays were delivered stacks of gifts by volunteers and law enforcement agents.

More than 2,000 items were delivered to Winthrop University Hospital, where they will be put to good use. "Our admissions are up this year, we have a lot more coming through," says Winthrop Executive Director John Collins. "Many of them have cancer. These toys will help us get through the entire year."

Sen. Fuschillo says he's happy to be able to help make the children happy. "These kids are going through hard times here with treatments, radiation and chemo therapy. We're all about extending the holidays and letting them forget for the moment why they are here," Fuschillo says.
