Toy, cash donations dip for Long Island charity
A Long Island charity group's annual toy drive did not see the amount of toys or cash donations they have in the past.
The John Theissen Children's Foundation's annual toy drive usually distributes more than 80,000 toys and other items to sick youngsters across Long Island.
Theissen says they are down 40 percent in cash donations.
When Theissen was 17 years old, a pituitary tumor was discovered on his brain. A little girl named Tasha, who had no visitors, felt sorry for him and brought him a small teddy bear.
That led him to realize that some children would not have Christmas gifts. Hence, the John Theissen Foundation was created.
Donation information can be found on the foundation's website.
