Gov. Kathy Hochul provided an update on Friday night’s historic rainfall Saturday.

Hochul called for a state of emergency due to the extreme rain Friday. She says there are thousands of Department of Transportation and utility crews responding to areas that were flooded out. The National Guard has also been deployed.

"This is not an ordinary rainfall. This is historic. We are on track to possibly create a new record of 10 inches of rain falling in literally 24 hours,” she said.

Hochul urges New York residents to be vigilant and stay home if possible.
