The dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Building will be lit blue tonight in honor of International Autism Awareness Day and the start of Autism Awareness Month.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says the county will be reviewing its available resources for families with children with autism.
"Nassau County will be at the forefront of making sure that those who are diagnosed as being autistic have opportunities like anybody else. Opportunities to work, housing and also an opportunity to enjoy their life and live a very fruitful and resourceful life here in Nassau County," Blakeman said this morning.
About 1 in 36 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder, according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network.
