Police say the two suspects behind a two-county police chase that ended with a crash into a Nassau police cruiser in Woodbury will be arraigned this morning.
The suspects have been identified as Murray Hawkins, 35, of Laurelton, and Kevin Highland, 35, of Jamaica.
Hawkins has been charged with robbery in the first degree. Highland has been charged with robbery in the first degree, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and robbery in the first degree for a bank robbery that occurred at Capital One in Babylon on December 29.
Police tell News 12 they are investigating whether Hawkins and Highland were part of a bank robbery pattern in Nassau County.
The chase began after a bank robbery in Bay Shore on Wednesday. Police from multiple agencies responded.
The chase ended when the suspects' vehicle, a silver SUV with Massachusetts license plates, crashed into a squad car near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Route 135, according to police.
The suspects fled on foot and officers arrested one as he tried to cross Route 135, and the other in the Eagle Rock apartment complex nearby.
The investigation closed off parts of Jericho Turnpike and the northern end of Route 135 for hours. Both have since reopened.
Police from both counties continued to search the apartment complex for a possible third suspect, but say that measure was out of caution.
Authorities believe they have all suspects in custody.
Suffolk police initially received a call around 9 a.m. about a robbery at the Capital One bank on the Sunrise Highway service road in Bay Shore, according to Suffolk Deputy Commissioner Tim Sini.
Suffolk police responded and the suspects fled up Route 135 into Nassau County. Sini says investigators recovered a bag of money at the scene.
A Nassau officer and a Suffolk officer sustained minor injuries during the incident, officials say.
